Tamela Ketchmore, Retired Army Captain, Consultant & Activist
Soror Tamela Ketchmore is a a retired army captain and combat veteran. Since 2008, Tamela Ketchmore has served as a member and delegate of the Clark County Democratic Party Central Committee of Nevada. Through the years, she has stressed the importance of voting through her volunteer efforts that include voter registration drives and information distribution, working on presidential campaigns and serving on the Jefferson Jackson Fundraising Commttee. Tamela, a recognized Nevada Lobbyist, is often called upon to speak on behalf of veterans, military sexual assault survivors, and the general well-being of veterans.
In addition, Tamela is an Elite Member of the National Assocationof Professional Women adding Founder and CEO of Tamela’s Artists and Gifts Consultant LLC specializes in elegant party supplies and designs to her many lists of activities and accomplishments.
For her many accomplishments and commitment to giving back, Soror Tamel was selected for a 2016 Las Vegas Black Image Image Magazine honor.
Soror Ketchmore, a Charter Member of Psi Upsilon Omega Chapter, has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 25 years. She earned the Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington.
A resident of Nevada for over 10 years, she now devotes herself to various organizations, including the Lion’s Club, Psi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority as well as speaking publicly about her career in the military. She also volunteers working with high school students. Armed with a firm belief that all races contributed in some form to ensure freedom, justice, and equality for their families and their children with her love for collecting Black Barbie Dolls, Tamela recently launched Phenomenal Diversity Dolls Consulting. Recognized by Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, the primary goal of Phenomenal Diversity Dolls Consulting is to teach children the value and importance of learning that cultural differences are beautiful and should be celebrated. Phenomenal Diversity Dolls Consulting uses a beautiful array of diverse dolls as as learning tools to engage children in a fun and educational experience. The interactive and fun workshops and seminars are designed to provide children with the knowledge and skills to celebrate the diverse world in which we live, today and in the future.
While in the military, Tamela was a commissioned First Lieutenant in
the Medical Service Corps. She was assigned to Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas in the mental health division and then assigned as the chief
of social work services in the Muson Army Hospital and the emergency
room first responder and case manager. She was called for a tour of
duty in the HHC First Battalion, 24th Infantry Division as the 24th Infantry Division Mental Health, Social Worker and was deployed to the Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War (desert shield/ desert storm). Upon her return, she was promoted to rank of captain and was assigned to the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth as a social work officer.
